“I learned two things...that the pain for the world which I carried around inside me was widely and deeply shared; and that something remarkable happened when we expressed it to each other. Instead of miring ourselves in doom and gloom, the opposite had happened. We turned some key that unlocked our vitality.”
-Joanna Macy, Widening Circles
What is the Work That Reconnects?
Developed by Joanna Macy in response to the destruction of our planet, the Work that Reconnects is a body of work, a set of practices, and a community network designed to help us navigate the social and ecological crises facing our world today, and ultimately empower us to take part in creating a life-affirming and sustainable future for life on earth. Find out more Here.
Active Hope is another, more general term that refers to the same body of work, but encompasses a more general way of looking at things. "Active Hope" is both an orientation, and a process; it's both a noun and a verb. It's about finding, and offering, our best response when facing concerns about our world situation. It is also the title of a book written by Joanna Macy and Chris Johnstone, designed to help people navigate the confusing state of our world. Find out more here.
Anna is an active facilitator of the Work That Reconnects, offering workshops and Active Hope groups in Ireland and more. She works with community groups, organisations, businesses, political groups, universities, and more. Find out more about her work by visiting Project Mobilise:
